How Strange

Posted in general by admin on the October 15th, 2007

Here’s what happened: I just finished reading an essay by an Islam scholar regarding the perils of modernity for my latest graduate class. Then I opened up my blog and noticed an older post of mine regarding Rousseau’s concerns with technology and advanced society. This was written pre-class, so I had no idea what material would be addressed in our readings.

This is one of those odd syncretic events that always seem to occur when I take a class. It’s a general state of heightened awareness in which premonitions are not unusual.
I believe these experiences are truly amazing and I cannot imagine myself being uninvolved in a classroom environment. Every subject I pursue creates awareness in previously unexplored areas. I am forever changed.

When studying subjects such as philosophy, theory or religion, you’re more than likely almost always going to find there is an opposing principle or practice to things. I think it helps us a lot though so we can have a choice on what principle we believe to be true or practice ourselves. It can even change out perspective on things and change the way we think and choose to live our lives. We live in a world with over 20 different religions, numerous different types of moral values, practices, customs etc…so; we are given a lot of different ways of life to choose from!
As far as education is concerned, I think that it should always be constant in our lives, whether it’s in a classroom or not…as long as we learning and growing. The world is continually transforming around us and education provides us with the chance to expand our minds in the study of the purpose, process, nature and ideals.

I liked this. Especially the last sentence. I guess that is what education is all about. Love DAD
