The Water Protectors by Odd Nerdrum
“There will always be those who fail to follow, who fall out of grace.
In the art world, where religious absolutes rule, these people have become
exterminated – not ethnically, but ethically. They are perceived of as the losers
of progress and are thrown onto the landfill of history. I am one of those losers, …
and I have been forced to sustain the whip of God’s angels.”

Is it wrong to comment on my own post? I love this artist. What more can I say? Actually, I think I have said it all, in a rather lengthy paper I wrote on Nerdrum and the aesthetic theory of sentimentality.

I think the same can be said for other “classes” of people too - not just artists, I think those that travel on the ubeaten path or rather, “fail to follow” along that line sometimes turn out better than those who have chosen the safe route on the sole reasoning of that they were the ones to choose their path, they were the ones who stood the test of time and treaded through muddy waters to get where they are today.
